  1. 2013 8th Grade Field Trip By: Blake Johnson and Drake Parkinson

Description • Lately in our English and social studies classes we have been learning about the holocaust, and GA after the Civil War along with it’s economic growth post the war. • In hopes of extending our knowledge we would like to have the whole 8th grade go on a field trip to Atlanta to the William Bremen Jewish Heritage Museum, and the World of Coca – Cola.

  3. Itinerary Itinerary 6:30 – 6:45 Meet in commons for attendance. 7:00 Leave Pine Grove Middle 11:00 Eat lunch at the Varsity 12:00 Depart for the William Bremen Jewish Heritage Museum 3:00 Leave for World of Coca – Cola 5:00 Leave World of Coca – Cola 5:30 Eat dinner at Golden Corral 6:30 Leave Golden Corral 10:30 Arrive at Pine Grove Middle for parent pickup

  4. Morning Preparations • On the morning of the field trip, all students, and chaperones attending the trip will need to meet in the commons no later than 6:45 for attendance. • If your child does not show before the buses leave at 7:00 he/she will be left behind as we can not wait longer for students to show late. • Students may bring extra items (I.e. electronics – phones, iPod's, portable game systems, headphones.)

  5. Traveling information The ride to “The Varsity” will be approximately under 4 hours. Which is 225 miles which is 25 miles below the range allowed.

  6. Traveling information The drive to the William Bremen Museum is about 2.5 miles, and will take about 11 minutes.

  10. Lunch • For lunch, students will be eating at “The Varsity.” A local popular hot dog and burger joint. • Students will need to bring money as they WILL BUY their own lunch. • Students who would like to bring their own lunch may as well, but keeping up with it will be their own situation.   11. William Bremen Jewish Heritage Museum • The William Bremen Jewish Heritage Museum will allow students to enhance their learning on the years of the Holocaust and Jews in the present day. • Students can learn about the Holocaust through different forms of media, such as photographs, personal memorabilia, and videotaped interviews with survivors from the metropolitan – Atlanta area. • The students would take a guided tour from a Holocaust trained volunteer to help better understand what had happened, and answer any possible questions there may be from somebody on the tour.

  13. Fees (in depth) for museum • Student group rates are $4 per student and $6 per adult for tours booked a month in advance. Teachers and bus drivers are free of charge, as well as one adult chaperone per ten students. Additional adults are $6 each. • To guarantee your reservation, a nonrefundable scheduling fee of $36 per tour is due at least four weeks before your tour date. This payment may be made online through our secure website, by credit card or by check.

  15. Hours for museum • Monday – Thursday 10 AM – 5 PM • Friday 10 AM – 3 PM • (Since we will more than likely be going on a school day)

  16. World of coca cola SS8E2 The student will explain the benefits of free trade. Describe how Georgians have engaged in trade in different historical time periods. Explain Georgia's role in world trade today. SS8E3 The student will evaluate the influence of Georgia's economic growth and development. Define profit and describe how profit is an incentive for entrepreneurs. Explain how entrepreneurs take risks to develop new goods and services to start a business. Evaluate the importance of entrepreneurs in Georgia who developed such enterprises as Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, Georgia-Pacific, and Home Depot. GA CCGPS standards that tie in with the 8th grade GA Studies course.

  17. Fees (in depth) *Prices include tax. World of Coca-Cola will pay for up to 5 adults complementary. (1 adult per 10 students.) Each field trip will last about 1 ½ to 2 hours.

  18. Information on world of coca -cola • At the World of Coca – Cola students will be able to learn about the history of coke, the bottling process, and the secret formula vault along with how “coke” tied in with the economic growth of GA after the Civil War. • Hours of operation vary by dates.
