Emotional Development • During pregnancy the mother and sometimes the father begins talking to the baby. Cognitive Development • The brain begins to develop by the third week • By the fourth week, the brain develops into three sections; forebrain, middle brain and hind brain • By the sixth week the neural tube that connects the brain and spinal cord closes • By the tenth week the brain development is very rapid and is forming 250,000 neurons per minute. • By the nineteenth week the baby is able to make muscle movements. The forebrain develops into left and right cerebral hemispheres of the brain. • By the twenty second week the brain is understanding sensory perceptions and the fetus becomes capable of distinguishing between different sounds.
Cognitive Development • By the twenty fourth week the brain starts regulating all body functions, and activating the auditory and visual systems. • By the twenty sixth week the brain enhances auditory and visual sensors. • By the twenty seventh week the baby may be able to dream. • By the twenty eighth week the brain is monitoring the breathing and regulating body temperature. • During the twenty ninth and fortieth week the brain will increase and grow extremely fast.
