  4. BENCHMARK (ex: PLA, DAPPA, FCA, SRI, Read Levels, HM, WTW) Occurs 3 times a year Assesses multiple areas of grade level expectations. Assists with instructional groupings & screening students who require more intensive instruction & intervention Diagnostic analysis- data teams PROGRESS MONITOR Formative Assessment- guides instruction. Conducted frequently- more frequent in Tiers II & III. Assesses efficacy of instruction/intervention. Diagnostic Benchmark vs. Progress Monitor

  5. ACTIVITY “Tools You Use” Question: What do you do to regularly monitor the progress of students in reading? Think about: • Students in interventions- how do you know if the instruction is effective? • How do you know if students are mastering IEP goals?

  13. Curriculum Based Measurement (CBM) Curriculum Based Measurement – A type of curriculum-based assessment characterized by frequent and direct measurement of critical school behaviors. They are often 1-4 minute samples of reading, math and writing skills.

  14. CBMs are a GENERAL OUTCOME MEASURES Like taking a temperature- Or getting a blood pressure Or standing on a scale These are all QUICK measures that may signal the need for more detailed diagnostic measures. We don’t need MRIs for all students!

PLUS Quick (more time to instruct) Multiple Forms-same measure, same difficulty Useful as a Screener & PM Graphically monitors progress over time Paraprofessionals can be trained to administer Valid/Reliable Standardized DELTA Diagnostic information is limited. Some districts use alone for determination of intervention/tiers. Limited usefulness in determining specific instructional strategies. Curriculum Based Measurements

  33. If our students are not making progress, we need to: CHANGE INSTRUCTION - Change in methodology may be warranted - Increase amount of instruction time. - Determine if instruction is being delivered with integrity. - Change instructional grouping (1-1, small group, group composition)
