What is the Scientific Method? Systematic way of testing ideas, observations, predictions and inferences
Case no. 1 Misty loves to garden and wants to grow lots of flowers. She bought the MIRACLE fertilizer which is said to help plants produce more flowers. She wanted to prove if the fertilizer is effective.
She planted two flowering plants of the same species and size in separate containers with the same amount of soil. She placed MIRACLE fertilizer on plant A and no fertilizer on plant B. She placed both plants near the window and waters it every day. After a month, she found out that plant A have more flowers than plant B.
What is the PROBLEM Will the Miracle Fertilizer help the plant grow more flowers? What is the effect of the Miracle Fertilizer to the flowering plants? Is the Miracle Fertilizer effective in producing more flower in plants?
THE PROBLEM • what you want to find out • Is stated in form of question
What is the Hypothesis? The miracle fertilizer will help the plant produce more flowers. The miracle fertilizer has no effect in the plants.
Hypothesis -can you guess what will happen? -educated guess or answer to the problem
What is the Experimental Design? SETUP A: Plant with Fertilizer (Experimental Setup) SETUP B: Plant without Fertilizer (Controlled Setup)
Both Setups have the same: Type of Soil, Amount of Water and Sunlight, and Plant Species
Gather Data Plant A 0 month – 5 flowers 1 month – 10 flowers Plant B 0 month – 5 flowers 1 month – 6 flowers
Organizing Data - Identify the patterns or trends in the data - Is your hypothesis supported by your data?
Conclusion The plant applied with Miracle fertilizer has more flowers compared to the plant with no fertilizer. The Miracle Fertilizer will help the Plant produce more Flowers
The Miracle Fertilizer is effective in producing more flowers in a plant
