WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFICE- a department created by the City council in 1995 to implement solid waste management programs. 2008 – renaming WMO to CEMO COVERAGE: 16 barangays, estimated 496,205 population, 21.5 sq. kms in area, estimated 800 cubic meters daily volume of garbage • BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  3. MANNER OF COLLECTION • DOOR TO DOOR • ROUTES ARE FOLLOWED CODED AS TO WHERE BARANGAY A STREET IS LOCATED • FREQUENCY: 2 x/week = nabubulok 1 x/week = di-nabubulok color coded “panali” is required i.e., pink for the di-nabubulok and green for the nabubulok.

  4. WASTE CHARACTERIZATION • As of November 2010 Paper – 16% glass – 2% Metal – 3% plastic – 29% organic – 44% Inorganic –5% Hazardous – 0.3% Special – 0.7%

WASTE DIVERSION • Recyclables recovery thru MRF and Eco Savers Program (school-based) • Segregation and delivery of all tires and rubber wastes to a cement factory • Segregation and delivery of waste coco husks and tree cuttings to Marikina Composting Facility and to a paper mill/to charcoal maker • Reuse of demolition and construction debris as backfilling materials • Operation of Buyback center/Balik-Baterya • Operation of Barangay MRF’s • Separate collection and sale of used cooking oil for diesel making

  6. ENFORCEMENT • PENALTY FOR IMPROPER DISPOSAL = P2,000.00 or 20-hr. community service or blood donation • PENALTY FOR UNSEGREGATED WASTES= P2,000.00 and non collection • PENALTY FOR LITTERING =P500/pc. (25% of the fine goes to the apprehending person) • PENALTY FOR BURNING GARBAGE=P2,000 • A SANITATION CITATION TICKET IS ISSUED TO A VIOLATOR.
