ABCD Assets- Based Community-Development Prepared by Fify Samir Antigonish 11th of October 2013 Better to light a candle than curse the darkness
I the Egyptian Foundation • is non-profit foundation established in 2008 (Registration number 559/2008) • The foundation goal is to address the reality of the children’s presence in the streets as well as the processes that push them to the streets.
What I learned and became believed in the ABCD Course is:
The Assets / street children • The number of the children at the beginning of January 2012 was 52 children • During this year 30 children were served by the staff, and 22 were added to the institute shelter while others went back to streets. • The number of children at the end of August 2013 is 107children. • The maximum capacity for the institute accommodation is 180, should be reached in 2016.
The Assets / Institute CURRENT SITUATION The institute includes the following 1- Five building with capacity up to 180 children and currently it is occupied by less than this capacity 2- Mini Club –still in progress 3- Sewing unit as a unit for vocational training 4- Community School under the Educational Ministry Umbrella .
The Principles • God created me to success. • Together impossible becomes possible and possible becomes easy • Start with what you have. • Nobody has nothing. • If we have the will every thing will be possible. • What was yesterday obstacle, may be become success of today

The Initiative Outreach & Rehabilitation program
The idea • Work with street children is undertaken in stages due to the reality that as well as factors that push children to the street, there are also factors that pull and attract them to the street and therefore often makes it difficult for them to accept to be in a shelter. In the first stage, outreach to children on the street takes place to initiate a rehabilitation process, subsequently; the children attend day care/reception facilities to continue the process of preliminary rehabilitation. This prepares them for the second stage of agreeing to be accommodated in the shelter where the rehabilitation and education process can continue and such that the children are resocialized and educated to enable them to be reintegrated into society and their families. At all stages of the process,, • Focuses on family integration where the primary goal is for the children to return to their families where possible.
The Goals: • Offering the integrated care for the children. • Therapeutic opportunities to engage in creative activities and play games and sports. • Incorporate non-formal education lessons that teach essential life principles and skills through sports, drama and computer classes. • Enable them to be positive and stronger. • Achieve social and developmental integration. • Activation the Vocational program to help the child to find jobs after becoming a 18-year-old
Programs to Single Mothers Mother Child
The expected results: • Low crime rate • Improving Economy • Rehabilitation both the family and the child • Reintegration the child with his family • Find jobs for street children after they leave the shelter. • Help the children's family working in small projects through loans
