English Regents Task Two
TASK Read a non-fiction, informational selection accompanied by one or more visual materials (charts, diagrams, graphs, etc.) Answer ten (10) multiple choice questions about these. Write an extended response (essay) based upon your analysis and interpretation of the information given (just as you would write any essay).
TIPS • Fully understand the prompt!!! • (task / audience / purpose) • Know what you are reading and what you are looking for. • Answer the multiple choice questions first—they may lead to you important information.
Tips, continued . . . • Underline, circle, draw arrows to important information in the text. • Make special note of things you will want to quote directly (and be sure to have a few direct quotations! • Take a few notes, especially on things that will help you to organize and develop your essay cogently. • (Ask: How will this item help me to prove my point???) • Be sure to make connections between the text and the visual material(s)…YOU MUST REFER TO BOTH!
