Physical Science Vocabulary Week23
1) sound • Waves that transmit disturbances produced by vibrating objects
2) vibrations • Rapid, back-and-forth movements of particles
3) frequency • Number of wavelengths that pass a given point in one second; measured in hertz (Hz).
4) pitch • The highness or lowness of a sound
5) wavelength • The distance between two successive and comparable points on a wave
6) cochlea • A spiraled, hollow chamber of bone within the ear
7) Longitudinal wave • A wave in which particles vibrate back and forth along the same path that the wave travels (compressional wave)
8) echo • A reflected sound wave.
9) compression • Part of the longitudinal wave where the particles bunch up closer together
10) rarefaction • Part of a longitudinal wave in which the particles expand and move apart
