Tevatron progress: Aug to Nov’03, look in FY’04 • Luminosity: (average initial peak L) • End of July (5 stores #2815-2826) L=40.1 • End of Aug (7 stores #2934-2956) L=39.9 • record L as of Aug.8 45.3e30 store #2824 record L as of Nov.7 48.9e30 store #2887 • lifetimes of N_p dropped from 70 to 32 hrs , L – from 12 to 9 hrs, N_pbar and eff-emittance ~same (~ 30hrs) • FY’03 Integral 238 pb-1 (goal was 230 pb-1)
Highlights on Operations/Reliability: • FY’03 goal of 230 pb-1 2 weeks before shutdown • New helix >500GeV to Seq.4 +2% ramp eff (Yuri) • Lattice corrected at inj helps ?pi (Valery) • Crate PSs problems (3 stores) • 1 bckt off pbars (2 stores, 3 days) – fixed • High proton losses early in stores • 1st inj damper ½ commissioned (JS, CYTan)
Tevatron Beam Physics Progress: • V4YA ramp helix commissioned (Yuri, Jerry, +) • series of lattice measurements, implementation of corrected lattice at injection (Valeri, Petr) • direct -function msmnt QXR – way off the model (AJ) • b2 snapback news, no need in 6 ramps, etc (Pierre, Velev) • calc’s&suggestions on octupoles/A0 sextupole (PI, YA) • * est 37-44 cm from L(z) (VS), drift since Feb (Vaia) • theory of instability and inj damper, recomd’s (A.Burov) • SDA of high proton losses (Paul, Vaia, VS) – still ??
Tevatron Diagnostics: • new BPM design progress(S.Wolbers,J.S.,M.M.+) • Cv,h from “tunefitter” works (Paul) • new SBD l algorithm (Alvin) • IPM reviewed, OK’d (AJ+) • Bunch phase detector design started (Claudio, JS) • HLS system moved to sector B (BINP, J.Volk) • Strange 21 MHz pbar Schottky (Markus H.) • FWs test/analysis in progress(S.P,K.Genzer) • Abort gap monitor improved, unexplained study results (H.Cheung, S.P)
Shutdown’03 Projects J.Volk many preceded by internal reviews • F0 Lambertson Liner P.Ivanov, A.Chen • Reshim 106 dipoles D.Harding, J.Annala • A48 Collimator R.Moore • New octupole circuits P.Ivanov, J.Annala • A0 sextupole D.Still,Y.Alexahin • Fix cold leaks A4,E2, F1 D.Augustine • Fix aperture restrictions (A0, D0..) C.Moore,B.Hanna,+ • Vacuum improvements (A1/P1,F0) B.Hanna • Replace rusty stands (~ 80 dipoles) M.McGee, J.Volk • Survey and Alignment (unrolls, …) Ray,Craig, Norm,Keith,AMG • BPM wiring F.DeJongh, + • TevNet (survey network) AMG • B-sector HLS system A.Chupira,J.Volk,Todd
Next Two Months: • Operation/Maintenance: • Tev startup 7 days 11/18-11/25 • Back to >40e30 mid-Dec • Beam studies after the startup: • impedance measurements after shutdown explore larger N_p (PI, Bruce, +) • lattice msmnts after shutdown (VL, PI, +) • commission inj-dampers (JimS, Tan) • possible studies to reduce high LOSTP (TEL?) • P1/A1 rolls Emm at injection (DaveJ,Val,JA) • 300W kicker to clean DC beam (CYTan, J.S) • commission SL abort gap monitor (Harry, Stephen,+)
Next Two Months: Expectations • Last time it was “… we are around 45-51 by Sep 8” - we are at 49e30 • Over the next 2 months, I expect: • be around 40e30 mid-Dec • possible improvements • 10-20% more p due to reduced Lambertson impedance • As the result, I expect we’ll be around 45-55e30 by Jan.8, 2003
