Geography • Greece is a peninsula with an archipelago. • Bordered by the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Ionian Seas. • Contains many hills and mountains. • These natural features led to the isolation of different communities in Greece. • This isolation caused the Greeks to have city-states as opposed to a unified Greece.
Natural Resources Jars used to hold olive oil • Many forests: • Learned to work well with wood, and eventually became great ship builders. • Began to earn a living through trade. • Excellent Crops • Greece had little fertile land, but the native crops were very valuable. • Grew olives, which made many rich from trade. • Wheat was another important crop.
Climate • Greece has a Mediterranean climate. • Mild temperatures • Lots of sunshine • Limited rainfall • High mountains and lowlands provide large differences for the climate in different areas. • Mountains are usually snow covered in winter, while lowlands receive rain instead.
