Including its raw materials What are M&ms made of?
Raw materials • M&Ms' have two main components, The chocolate center and the sugar coat on the outside. • The chocolate comes from cocoa beans found in south and central America. • The sugary coat comes from a mix of sugar and corn syrup. • Other ingredients are: whole milk, cocoa butter, sugar, and chocolate liquor, ect.
The making process: Molding • The liquid chocolate is poured into tiny molds to create the chocolate centers of the candy. For peanut butter chocolate M&Ms‘ the peanut butter center is made first, and then surrounded by the chocolate. Same process applies for Peanut M&ms • After the candies are formed, they are “tumbled” to make the chocolate center smooth and rounded. After they are allowed to harden.
Coating • When the chocolates are hard, they are transported to the coating area, where panning is performed. • During panning the harden candies are put in a big drum and sprayed with the sugary coating evenly at timed intervals. • The color is applied as the final coat and each batch is a different color. After the sugary coat dries it is moved to printing.
Printing • In this process all the M&ms colors are combined and taken to a special machine that imprints the M on all the M&ms candies. • The machine is very gentle so it wont crack the soft sugary coating.
Packaging • A machine packages the bags according to weight and pours the proper amount into individual bags and heat seals them. • The finished packages are moved into boxes by conveyor belt and fills properly with the right amount of candy packs and then the box is shut and put into trucks to distribute.
