  2. About Mick Mick ( Michael) Malthouse was born o the 17th of August 1953 making him 58 years of age. He is a former Aussie rules footballer and the former coach of the Collingwood Football Club Mick’s career has included a premiership for Richmond in the VFL, and he is best not for he Australian Football League Coaching. Malthouse also coached West Coast Eagles from 1990 – 1999. From their he then went over to coaching Collingwood.

  3. Playing career St Kilda After leaving North Ballarat, Malthouse started his football career with St Kilda in 1972, playing 53 senior games including three finals. Richmond At Richmond he played 121 senior games, including six finals and the runaway premiership win over Collingwood in 1980. He was noted for being a tough and solid defender. He retired in 1983.

  5. Coaching Styles . Malthouse coaches using brief detail for example one two three a b c steps. This would be counted as autocratic because he decides what happens and he has complete control of the team. Collingwood use a similar plan each week of who plays in what position which Malthouse comes up with , not the players. The players may contribute to this but Mick has the final decision .

  6. Negatives of coaching in an autocratic style • Not every player gets a say in what they would like to happen . It is not a team decision and the game plan is completely up to their coach , but when it comes to the actual game it all comes back to the players doing what they know best. • Mick has complete say , so what he says may not be completely correct . It may not match to the players ability or what the players are capable of. However their ability would definitely would be considered not every single thing is being considered when only the coach is having a say.

  7. Positives to coaching in an autocratic style • Ideas don't get muddled up or miss-interpreted . The coach knows exactly what to say . • The coach knows what everyone is capable of and what each individual players commitment should be like and what sort of support and everything they need throughout each day to get them through . • The coach knows them best , therefore he would know best of how to coach the team properly .
