Definition of the GT programme Peer review/assessment• At all stages: - Stage 1: outline proposals - Stage 2: mature proposals for internal review - Stage 3: final proposals to go to HOTAC • At all levels:- Within the SAGs - By the SPIRE Co-Is acting as SPIRE TAC - By the HOTAC
April 2004 Science Team Meeting Objectives • Review progress that SAGs have made since the October 03 Porquerolles meeting on defining the options for the SPIRE Consortium's Guaranteed Time programme - Emphasis on - Scientific case, not detailed technical implementation - GT Key Programmes (first AO) • Initial sub-programme prioritisation within the SAGs • Discuss and note of SAG coordinators/Co-Is’ perspectives on various policy issues • First attempt at an indicative overall GT programme • Establish a clear plan for how we will define our GT programme
SPIRE Science Team Plan(agreed at April meeting) • SPIRE Science Team meeting April 14-16: - Consideration of Stage-1 proposals from the SAGs- Guidelines for Stage-2 proposal format (after HST meeting) • April – September - SAGs produce Stage-2 GT KP proposals- Discussions with other GT holders • September (at Consortium Meeting) - SPIRE TAC (= the Co-Is ) assesses and grades Stage-2 KP proposals (detailed) and regular GT proposals (outline) - Decides on fraction of GT which each SAG will get- Revise timetable for proposal preparation • October – January - Activity on overall coordination of the GT programmes - SAGs decide on detailed use their GT allocation - Refinement and detailing of GT KP proposals- Finalisation of formal collaborations with other GT holders- Production of Stage-3 proposals for internal review
SPIRE Science Team Plan • February- March 2005:- STAC meeting: review/endorsement of GT KP programme- Any last-minute changes/adjustments • May 2005: Ready for submission of SPIRE GT KP proposal to HOTAC • Note: Deadline is now August so the above schedule will be revised.
Meeting Conclusions Objectives largely met- Main activity for next six months is within the SAGs, which are to run autonomously- High quality KPs already put forward require much more GT than we have Guidelines needed from Herschel Science Team on- How and when the overall GT programme coordination will be done- Proposal format- Details of proposal submission (time estimators, use of SPOT etc.)- Clarification of proprietary periods- Nature of data products that KP teams will be required to provide; time available Open time KPs- Now is a good time to promote formation of KP consortia- Galactic plane survey: already underway- Extragalactic surveys: to be started up
