UFO Exercise CRTW 201 Dr. Fike
Epigraphs • "I really don't care what conclusion you reach as long as you think about your thinking." --Dr. Fike • "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." --Dr. Steven M. Greer
Directions • Do steps one through three on your own: write in your notebooks.
Step One: 5 seconds • Yes or no: You believe that extra-terrestrial persons are visiting Earth in the present day.
Step Two: 5 minutes • What are your background stories regarding aliens? (Think, for example, about things that you have read, seen on the news, or seen portrayed in movies. Have you ever had an experience of an ET--in person, in a dream?)
Step Three: 5 minutes • What are your assumptions, biases, and impediments as regards the issue of ET presence?
Step Four: 5 minutes • Discussion: What do you make of the ET issue thus far--and why? (This stage is not an exercise in the elements or the standards. Just say what you think or feel.)
Step Five: 30 minutes Information from the Disclosure Project (except for the final clip); watch the boldfaced clips Introduction:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOeDyeU3lyM Quadrant One: • Nature of witnesses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFsSKCax2CY Quadrant Two • Disclosure Project goals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxNEWGl2rUI Quadrant Three • Moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6QNzH4x1rY&feature=related Quadrant Four • Apollo 11: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlkV1ybBnHI&feature=related
Step Six: 10 minutes • Small group work as indicated above. Using the questions on pages 71-72, apply the elements to what you have just viewed. In other words, analyze what you have just heard by using the elements. Some reference to "preponderance of evidence" (page 27) and to "claims" (pages 68-69) will be appropriate. After you analyze, bring the standards into your discussion. I may have you share some or all of your results with the class. • USE THE ELEMENTS TO ANALYZE YOUR CLIP. USE THE STANDARDS TO EVALUATE YOUR ANALYSIS.
Step Seven: Remainder of the Period • What points about your thinking about extra-terrestrial persons have emerged from this exercise? • Has today's class changed your original position on ET presence? • What did you discover about your thinking? • How does the standards of sufficiency obtain in this case? How much information is enough? Is NO amount of information enough? END
