OUR MISSION The Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center of Scotland County educates our community about domestic violence and sexual assault, prevents future occurrences, and empowers survivors and their families to rebuild their lives.
OUR VISION We will increase the number of survivors identified and served while being recognized by other agencies and community leadership as the area expert in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault by the end of 2008.
Agency History • Began in 1995 • Group of Friends, January 1995 • Board Convened • Rape Crisis Center of Scotland County • Serving Victims of Sexual Asalt • Obtained nonprofit 501( c )3 status • Staffed with only volunteers • Serving First Rape Vitims July 1995
Our History Continued • First Paid Director, August 1996 • Provided 24-hour crisis line • Added services for Domestic Violence, 1997 • Expended to 4 full-time/ 6 part-time employees, 1999 • Opened shelter Grace House, 1999 • Opened thrift shop, Shirley's Thrift Shop, 2003 • Thrift Shop Closing, lost lease, Oct 2006
Services Provided • 24 hr crisis line answered by staff and trained volunteers • Shelter for victims • Support groups for Rape and Domestic Violence Victims (women and children) • Education and Support services for victims to help deal with their trauma • Information about law enforcement and legal procedures • Client accompaniment to hospital, court, law enforcement agencies as well as information referrals • Community education programs: • Rage / Date Rape • Sexual Harassment • Marital Rape • Domestic Violence • Self Esteem / Empowerment

The new shelter, Grace House, will provide: • Six bedrooms • Three bathrooms • Large kitchen • Dining room • Living area • Play/study area for the children • Separate office area • Bath for the staff • Storage areas • One bedroom and bath will be handicapped accessible • Downstairs will be completely wheelchair accessible.
The office building will provide: • Four offices • Break Area • Conference room • Bath • Also wheelchair accessible
