  5. Kenning: • Special kinds of metaphors that use compound words, prepositional phrases, or possessives to name a person, place, thing, or event indirectly

  6. Examples: • Compound words: sea-paths • Prepositional phrases: winters of grief • Possessives: ocean’s face

  7. 9-14-12 Journal: • Give your definition of a hero and give examples. • Is it ever wise to “worship” a hero? Explain. • Discuss who is a hero to you.
