  3. Education Inquiry - Key themes of final report • Inquiry Report - 12 recommendations to enable London schools to ‘Go for Gold’ across 3 themes: 1. Promoting excellent teaching in all London schools. 2. Preparing young Londoners for life and work in a global city. 3. A good school place for every London child.

  4. Mayor’s Education Programme: Promoting excellent teaching • London Schools Excellence Fund to drive up standards in literacy, numeracy and STEM and languages, through new partnerships. • ‘Gold Club’ of schools that are achieving exceptional results, especially for the most disadvantaged pupils. • Annual report and London education conference. • ‘London Curriculum’ using the city itself to inspire new resources and activities in schools.

  6. Aims of the Fund • Cultivate teaching excellence (subject knowledge) • Support school-to-school and peer-led activity • Develop and scale-up existing activity • Create cultural change – raise expectations

  7. Priority Areas • 1. English / Literacy • Maths / Numeracy • STEM (including computer science) • Modern foreign and ancient languages • 2. EBacc subjects • 3. Other subjects knowledge-led focus

  8. What will the Fund pay for? Teachers professional development: teaching and subject knowledge Materials, travel etc Other pupil interventions

  9. Who can apply? • Schools (All types) • Charities • Local authorities • Further and higher education institutions • Other

  10. Core requirements • Support wider school/departmental development plans • Focus on teacher subject knowledge • Activity across a number of schools • Value for money • Impact on pupil attainment • Support sustainable activity

  12. Round 2 • £30,000 - £75,000 grants • 1 Stage Application Process • Activity September 2013 – July 2015 • Open for bids from July 2013 • For proposed activity lasting two years, bids need to be submitted by 31/7/13
