False Dilemma • Pg. 188 Tituba, Reverend Parris, Mr. Putnam Parris: You will confess yourself or I will take you out and whip you to your death, Tituba! Putnam: This woman must be hanged! She must be taken and hanged! Tituba: No, no, don’t hang Tituba! I tell him I don’t desire to work for him, sir. The men were accusing Tituba of witchcraft and she knew that she was innocent. She thought she only had two options, to admit guilt and be imprisoned, or to keep her innocence and be hanged.
False Dilemma • Pg. 213 Danforth and Proctor “A person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between.” Mr. Proctor did not agree with what the court was doing. Mr. Danforth said that if he was not with the court then he must be against it even though that is not necessarily true.
