University of California Transfer Course Articulation Process April 2011
Introduction TCA Update Schedule Process • An initial email was sent at the beginning of April explaining the process; it included an attachment with each school’s scheduled month • If you are unfamiliar with the TCA process, plan to attend the UC Update session on Friday, April 29 • Review months are June through August for the first cycle • Timeline (OSCAR) • Priority based on timely responses
TCA Update Packet Contents • Email explanation and cover letter sent on the first day of your scheduled update month • Attachments include: • Policy and Process on Course Transferability • Directions for Revising UC Transferable Course Agreements • Special Regulations for Courses in Specific Subject Areas • A triple-spaced copy of your college’s most recent articulation agreement (TCA)
Things to do when Updating your TCA • Enter all course outlines for consideration into OSCAR • outlines must be current; no more than 5 years old • Include text books; within 5 years old • indicate prerequisites/corequisites • Make changes and additions to triple-spaced copy using Adobe and submit via email at: jennifer.forsberg@ucop.edu • In the email, summarize the changes you’ve made to your triple-spaced copy • Include an electronic copy of your current college catalog (or a link) or send us a hard copy
ASSIST’s Role in the UC TCA Process • Be sure the courses you are submitting are already in the ASSIST curriculum database including: • changes to course numbers, titles and unit values • Cross-listed courses need only be added into OSCAR in one of the disciplines • If ASSIST does not have this information, we can not make a decision in OSCAR and the course will not appear on your TCA • Course changes linked in ASSIST appropriately will activate the “formerly” function to identify when one course number becomes another • Also it’s important to remember that if you are deleting a course from your TCA you need to be sure the course has been deleted from the ASSIST curriculum database
When Your TCA is Finalized • I will send an e-mail notification indicating the status of those courses proposed along with any other information relating to your TCA (you should generally receive this within 30 days of your submission) • At that point you will be able to access your published TCA on Web ASSIST at: www.assist.org • Please verify that your published TCA matches the results sent to you
Variable Topics and Independent Study • Variable topics courses (objectives and content which vary from term-to-term, and where the outline lacks textbooks, novels, films). These courses need to be submitted and results will be noted on your email notification, but will not appear on your TCA. • Independent study courses (an arrangement between faculty and student) are not reviewed during the TCA process. UC will generally grant credit post-admission upon petition only. • Exception: if the independent course credit is needed for junior-level transferability, an admission evaluator may request the syllabus and other documentation in order to determine if the course is transferable during the application evaluation process.
