Things Fall Apart – Ch 11 1. It is night and Ekwefi tells a folk tale to Ezinma about a sly tortoise
2. A Party in the sky The tortoise finds out about a party being held by the King of Birds in the sky. He tricks the birds into letting him go – they all give him a feather so he can fly.
3. Falling Tortoise But the tortoise gets greedy and eats all the food at the party. The birds take their feathers back and the tortoise falls to earth. He breaks his shell. That’s why his shell is uneven!
4. Priestess in the Night Later that night, Chielo the priestess comes and demands to take Ezinma with her out into the night
5. Night Moves Ekwefi, her mother, follows her all through the night. She eventually ends up at The oracle and goes inside. Ekwefi waits outside all night.
6. Okonkwo’s Humanity Okonkwo shows up at the oracle. He has been up all night worried as well. This episode shows that Okonkwo does have a compassionate side – he is concerned about his daughter and wife.
Things Fall Apart – Ch 12 1. There is a big celebration at Obierika’s house – everyone is invited!
2. Okonkwo It is a wedding for Obierika’s son. Okonkwo is honored as the village’s greatest warrior and wrestler. His advice is sought by Obierika (respected).
3. The Wedding Party The party lasts late into the night.
