2. Introduction • Pack your bags! • Your planning a trip to Walt Disney World! However, you will need to use your math skills to figure out the cost to get there, the cost of four nights in a hotel, the cost of all your meals and park entrances. You and your group will work together to figure out how much these things will cost. The sooner you get started the sooner you will be on your (pretend) way to Disney World! Home Task

3. Task • In order to figure out how much money you will need to raise for this trip, you will each pick one of the three areas to figure costs in. Each role will do the research in the specific area and then present it to the group to make the decisions as a whole. • These four roles include: • Travel Expert- Researches costs of airplane versus gas expenses in driving. • Dining Expert- Researches costs of dining for three meals per day for a total of four days, comparing prices of other restaurants. • Lodging Expert- Researches costs of hotels for 4 nights comparing prices of other hotels. • Entertainment Expert- Researches costs of amusement park entrances, comparing prices of different parks and park hoppers. 4. Process • Step 1: Each group will choose one person for each role: Travel expert, Dining expert, Lodging expert and Entertainment expert. • Step 2: After deciding which role you will play, click on the page that describes your role. The page will tell you exactlywhat to do. • Step 3: Everyone will do the research for their own role to become an expert on the area they are researching. Although you are experts, you are not the one who makes the final decision. • Step 4: After the research is done for a role, come together as a group with your calculations and make your decisions as a whole. You will be graded on your teamwork, so try to listen to each other and participate as much as you can. • Step 5: When your individual work is finished click on the link to conclusion to find out what to do next. 5. Conclusion Now that each expert has narrowed their choices down to present to the group, it is now time for you to make some decisions as a whole. As a group you will have to decide on your budget. A reasonable budget is about $5,000 total. You will need to choose: • the way you are going to get to Florida • the restaurant you will eat at • the hotel you will stay 4 nights in • the parks you will be visiting. Once these decisions are made, you will need to put together a presentation using either Powerpoint or creating a Video Podcast. You will be presenting it to your class. 7. Video Podcasting Your video podcast must include a PowerPoint presentation with narrations. 8. Journal You’ve just spent 4 days/3 nights in Disney!!! Now that you have planned out your trip, pretend that you have already spent 4 days in Disney World. Wasn’t it a blast!? Your next task is to create a daily journal/log about what you did each day in Disney. The journal should include but not limited to: • Where did you eat(breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks)? • What parks did you go to? • What was your favorite ride at each park? • How was the weather? • Were the lines long at the parks? • How did you feel each day(excited? tired? overwhelmed? etc.)? 11. Travel Expert As your group's travel expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much it will cost to travel to Florida. You have two choices of transportation: flying or driving. In order to help you choose which way is best for your group, you will have to research information to figure out the cost of each. You will then present your data to your group to decide as a whole which choice is best. • If you choose to fly: You will need to buy round-trip plane tickets for all your group members that are under 11 years old, and for one adult to supervise . You will start at Newark International Airport in Newark, New Jersey and your destination is Orlando, Florida. You will be leaving on April 25thand return on April 28th. • If you chose to drive: You will need to pay for gas for a round-trip drive starting from Newark, New Jersey and ending at Orlando, Florida. • Keep in mind, that although driving is cheaper, it will take you at least one whole day to get there, and one whole day to return which will cut into your vacation time. 13. Lodging Expert • As your group's lodging expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much it will cost to stay in a hotel for four nights. In order to figure this out, you will use a website to search for hotel prices and from the search results you will be able to figure out the cost of four nights in a hotel. • The first thing you will do is click on the link that says "Find a hotel" When you are at the site, type Orlando in the box that says city. -The check-in date is April 25,2011. The check-out date is April 28,2011. -After you select the amount of people staying in 1 room, you may click search. • There will be an option on the top that says "landmarks" if you click on it and select Disney's Magic Kingdom, you will get a list of hotels near Disney. • From the first six hotels listed, choose three hotels, one that is a low price, medium price, and high price. • You will then present the hotels that fall into the three price categories to your group so that you can decide as a whole which choice is best. 15. Dining Expert As your group's dining expert, you are in charge of figuring out how much all of your meals on this trip will cost. I will give you a list of restaurants with links to their prices. You will need to figure out which restaurant is the least expensive medium cost, and most expensive. • You will have to figure out the cost of all three meals per day for everyone on the trip, as well as the total cost of meals for the entire vacation. • Your beverages will be free. -You do not have to figure out how much sales tax will cost, but you do have to figure out how much the tip for your meal will cost and add it to your total. • You will then present the restaurants that fall into the three price categories to your group so that you can decide as a whole which choice is best.
