Everyone has a plan. . . • Two or Four Year College • Postgraduate Year • Technical school/professional license • Work • Military • Gap/Interim Year
Requirements. . . FHS Class of 2014 Graduation Requirements: Proficiency in MCAS Math and English, a passing grade in Science/Technology/ Engineering MCAS and 22 Credits that include: • 4.0 credits of English • 3.0 credits of Mathematics • 3.0 credits of Science (2 lab courses) • 3.0 credits of Social Studies (Modern World History, US I and US II) • 2.0 credits of World Language • 1.5 credits of PE • 0.5 credits of Health • 5 credits of Electives **Minimum requirements for State College admission**
Standardized Testing. . . SAT Reasoning Test: • SAT measures academic aptitude • Areas tested: Math, Verbal & Writing Skills SAT Subject Test – Required at many selective schools: • Single, one hour, subject tests to demonstrate specific knowledge We recommend the following: • Junior Year • SAT Reasoning & Subject Tests - May and / or June • Senior Year • October, November and/or December
Standardized Testing cont. . . ACT: • Measures academic achievement • Areas tested: Math, Reading, Writing & Science • You must take ACT Plus Writing We recommend the following: • Junior Year-April/June • Senior Year- September through December TOEFL: • Test Of English as a Foreign Language • Advised if English is not your first language • Begin process as soon as possible
Preparing for Standardized Testing. . . Purpose: • College Admission • Preparation • Already taken PSAT twice at FHS • Prep Classes (Most helpful right before the test/between tests) • Information about Prep Classes is available on the FHS Guidance website Cost: • Fee Waivers are available to those who qualify • Please see your counselor if needed
