  3. What are equations? Variable- representing what we are trying to solve for. • X + 19 = 27 • We are trying to solve for X

  4. To solve: • Use the opposite operation to solve: • + then use – • - then use + • (x) or # next to a variable ÷ • ÷ or / then use x

  5. Example • X – 15 = 12 • +15 +15 • X + 5 = 37 • - 5 - 5 • 3x= 36 • ÷3 ÷3 • x/4 = 6 • *4 *4 • 27 • 32 • 12 • 24

  6. Midpoint of a line Midpoint- the half way point between two points on a line. Half way between 0 and 4 would be 2. Using a formula, how could we calculate this?

  7. Midpoint formula Midpoint = (x + y ) ÷2 Example (4 + 0) = 4 4 ÷ 2= 2 The midpoint is 2

  8. Midpoint with negative numbers Find the Midpoint (2 + -4) = -2 ÷ 2 = -1
