Thesis Statements • As you write your thesis statement, consider the following: • Reason: Why… • Consequence: What could happen if… • Significance: This is important because… • NO LISTS. NO LISTS. NO LISTS.
Organization • The Classical Model is not required, but it will help • Paragraphs should absolutely NOT be arranged by source • Paragraphs should be arranged by idea—what point are you making in this section? Why is it important to your argument? • Use multiple sources in each paragraph • DO NOT SUMMARIZE SOURCES. Analyze the information they provide in connection to your thesis.
Citations and Plagiarism • Sections highlighted are material that is directly quoted from a source • All in-text citations need to be parenthetical (NO ENDNOTES). • Alphabetize works cited entries
Development • Too much reliance on generalizations—make specific claims and have specific, relevant, high-quality evidence to support them. • Connect ideas to your larger thesis • Consider possible counterarguments • Use sources other than the ones I provided—those are just starting points.
Revisions • Due March 28 • Conference with me is REQUIRED for revision—after school or Ac Lab. • Highlight your changes • Change more than grammar or sentence structure—content and style need attention, too.
