Daily Schedule Allotments (4 year old classroom) • Morning Meeting 15 minutes • Choice Time 65 minutes and Small Group Literacy based (1st 15 minutes of Choice Time) • Story Time 15 minutes • Outdoor/Gross Motor Activities 45 minutes • Handwashing 5 minutes
Daily Schedule (4’s-continued) • Literacy (Whole Group) 15 minutes • Preparation for Lunch and Hand Washing 15 minutes • Lunch 20 minutes • Preparation for Rest and Story Time 10 min. • Nap Time 60 minutes (Total- 1 ½ hrs.) • Wake Up 5 minutes

Morning Meeting • To build a caring community, give a signal to gather group and lead children in greeting, sharing, group activity and news and announcements.
Choice Time and Small Group • Guide children to select interest areas. Use this time to teach content as children explore materials that you have carefully and purposefully planned. This is an ideal time to practice listening and speaking skills with children.
Choice Time and Small Group • Engage in many conversations, expand on their language, introduce them to new vocabulary and join in the children’s play when appropriate. Take advantage of children’s interest with books to observe children’s book knowledge and read to children individually or in small groups and complete literacy prompts.
Small Group Literacy • Lead a planned and purposeful small group Literacy based activity in the content areas that builds on children’s skills and interests. The group can be three to five children. Select groups according to their development level as indicated by The Creative Curriculum and ELAS assessment. Alphabet knowledge (letter names and sounds) small group time.
Story Time • This is a time to read to children to increase children’s experiential background, vocabulary and build their comprehension and fluency skills and phonological awareness.
Outdoors/Gross Motor Activities • Plan for special outdoor activities. Supervise and interact with children. Engage children in activities that not only support large motor development but also incorporate content areas.
Literacy (Whole Group) • Plan experiences that support literacy. Explicitly teach key literacy concepts. Utilize literacy strategies (talking, singing, playing with language, reading aloud, story telling and extensions, story retelling) to teach the components of literacy. Incorporate leapfrog systems.
Preparation for Lunch and Hand Washing • ½ class – Poems, rhymes, chants, finger plays • ½ class– Preparation for lunch
Lunch • Lunch is served family style. Encourage conversations about the day’s events, the meal itself and topics of interest to children.
Preparation for Rest and Story Time • Guide children in brushing teeth, setting out cots. Children can listen to recorded stories as they lay on their cots.
Nap Time • Help children relax so they can fall asleep. Supervise rest area. Provide for quiet activities for children who don’t sleep. • Remember- 1 hour nap time…Please.
Wake Up • Lights on! • Put cots away.
Music and Movement • Lead music and movementactivity.
Choice/Snack & Small Group Time • Choice/snack- Guide children to select interest areas. Use this time to teach content as children explore materials that you have carefully planned for. This is a good time to read to children individually or small groups and complete literacy prompts. The cooking center is set up with self serve snacks.
Small Group (Math) • First 15 Minutes of choice time. • Lead a planned and purposeful small group activity that builds on children’s math skills and interests. The group can be three to five children. Select groups according to their developmental level as indicated by the Creative Curriculum Assessment.
Closing Circle • Lead a group discussion about the day and plans for the next day.
