How to make an ‘A’in this class (And in any other class you ever take)
Think of yourself as an adult with a full-time job. • Learning is your goal and studying is your work. • If you are a full-time student, then you have a full-time job • Spend those hours working on improving your mind and skills. If you spend less time, then you are cheating yourself.
Be consistent • ‘A’ students are not sprinters, they are marathon runners • They work hard but at a steady, unrelenting pace • They don’t work hard for two weeks, then slack off • ‘A’ students generally make A’s and B’s on everything – tests, homework, quizzes, papers
Never miss class • Most ‘A’ students have perfect attendance. Illnesses and emergencies do happen, but it’s nearly impossible to make an ‘A’ after missing 5 or 6 classes in a semester.
Always read assignments before class. Always. • You will come to class capable of understanding and participating in discussions • You will find class more interesting
Ask questions • Volunteer to answer instructor’s questions • Be aggressive, not passive
Take notes • Write down anything said by the instructor or classmates if it sounds important or interesting • Reviewing for tests becomes easier • The simple act of writing helps you remember
Begin papers early • Write at least three drafts for every paper, and show each draft to someone who can give you advice • Each draft should focus on improving content
Ask for help when needed • Almost all motivated, high-achieving students have questions • Take advantage of support available to you
Always do more than the minimum • If all you do is meet the lowest expectations, you can expect a C • A’s and B’s are for excellence and above average
