  1. Lab-Space-Plasma Collaborations at the AIST Y. Yagi, H. Koguchi, Y. Hirano, T. Shimada, S. Kiyama, K. Shinozaki1 , Y. Ishisaki1, A. Hoshino1, K. Mitsuda2 , T. Asai3, M. Nagata4 Nat. Inst. of Adv. Industr. Sci. and Tech. (AIST) 1 Tokyo Metropolitan Univ.,2 ISAS, JAXA, 3Nihon Univ., 4 Hyogo Univ.

  2. AIST and TPE-RX The largest national inst. in Japan (~3200 empl.) Variety of scientific R&D Reversed Field Pinch (RFP) at Tsukuba TPE-RX and TPE-QS R/a = 1.72/0.45m ~RFX ~MST

  3. Superconducting Transition-Edge Sensor (TES) Calorimeter : X-ray detector • High energy resolution (dE~10-20 eV) in 0.1-10 keV cf. dE~200 eV for Si(Li) • Developed for X-ray astronomy to be mounted on Astro-E2 • Ti/Au layer + SiN/Si base • Working at 0.1K; cooled by Adiabatic Diamagnetization Refrigerator (ADR) GOALS: (AIST)Identification of high Z impurity lines and line free windows for Te measurement (JAXA, TMU) Test of the prototype detector using a real plasma source SPEC.S:=> see right STATUS:Installation of the detector to TPE-RX has just started from Aug-3. TES-X-ray detector (1)

  4. Installed and cooled down in this week!: Aug. 3-5 Experiment will be done in Aug. 9-18. TES-X-ray detector (2) First data Aug-5

  5. GOALS:Fuelling, Helicity injection (Current Drive), => Active control of the helicity, Current drive, Plasma biasing, Reconnection SPEC.S:V=0.8kV, fbias=3mWb, tpulse=5ms, H~24mWb2 STATUS:Collaboration with Nihon Univ. & Hyogo Univ.Initial exp. showed an increase and sustainement of ne and a change of Yt Helicity injection has started. Initial results are prommissing.

  6. Locked mode Phase- & wall-locked structure Y. Yagi et al, POP 6 (1999) 3824 Quasi-single helicity state (QSH) P. Martin et al, NF 43 (2003) 1855 Self-organization of two distinct MHD structures Distinct structures in the Real space and Wavenumber space

  7. CMSO-US Imaginary CMSO-Jpn H Japanese version of the CMSO T R D C R M Diag A common figure of merit representing the ‘self-organization’ may be needed. Change of free energy dWF/WF0, Size scale? A new approach to understand a whole system may be needed. SO
