  2. I am the element Gold • My discovery is known to the ancients in 3000 BC • I am found in group 11, period 6 • My atomic number is 79 • I have 79 protons and electrons, 118 neutrons

  3. continued • I am important because I can affect economics and politics, and I am also known as a precious metal. • I can be found throughout the world, but mostly I’m found in granite and rock in our planet • I am mostly used for jewelry, but I take part in computers, dentistry, and other electronics

  4. Physical Properties • I am ductile, meaning I can be drawn into thin wires • I am also malleable, meaning I can be hammered into thin sheets • My touch is soft, and could be scratched easily

  5. continued • I lack electrical resistance, therefore electric currents pass through easily. • I am reflective by heat and light • My melting point is 1,064.76 degrees C, 1,948.57 degrees F • My boiling point is 2,700 degrees C, 4,900 degrees F

  6. Chemical Properties • Not reactive • I don’t dissolve with acids • I cannot combine with oxygen • I don’t react with halogens easily either • When I am a gold coin or necklace, it is hard for me to rust / tarnish
