  2. Why Change The Process Now? Changes in legislation and Education Code made to improve student success in California’s ADN programs New multi-criteria enrollment process Application online Must reapply each semester Check website carefully

  3. Enrollment Criteria Includes: Previous degrees, health care licenses, certification, direct patient care experience Grade point average (GPA) Life/special circumstances, veteran status Second language proficiency Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

  4. Total Possible Points = 100pts All nine criterion yields possible 100 points Until Spring 2014 points for re-applicants 67 points needed to be placed into random selection pool Below 67 points not eligible to apply to the nursing program Class selected from random selection pool

  5. How Do Students Benefit? • Higher GPAs and TEAS scores increase odds of getting into the program • Work and life experiences can add points • Grades earn point values • Will know if eligible to apply to the program • No wait lists

  6. SO WHAT IS REALLY NEW THAT ALL APPLICANTS MUST DO??? Take TEAS V BEFOREapplying!!! No longer accepting TEAS IV after fall 2011 NOTE: only FIRST test score accepted Go to ATI website www.atitesting.com to order TEAS V study manual ($42) Study manual on reserve in LRC HIGHLY recommend studying for the test

  7. Where Can I Test?How Much Does It Cost? Cost of the TEAS V is $40; student purchases on day of exam with credit card It can be taken at any available testing site Testing dates at main campus; extended campus when a new class starts there ATI website www.atitesting.comto find out testing dates and times other than at SCC Practice assessment tests are also available at the ATI website ($35)

  8. Timelines Application timelines have changed Beginning Spring 2013, one application period; Fall & Spring classes will be chosen for Main Campus When completing online application you will learn whether you qualify for the pool If eligible to apply, start gathering supporting documents

Need To Submit Supporting Documents Verification of Program Enrollment Criteria Support documents confirm responses Must submit all documents with online application cover page at the same time Incomplete applications are not processed Will not be notified re missing documents It is the responsibility of the student to make sure there are no missing documents

CASE STUDY: Applicant Profile AA degree in Physical Therapy Assistant 5 pt Licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant 5 pt GPA for BIO 430, 431, 440 = 3.25 10 pt GPA = 3.75 for PSYCH 300, ENGWR 300 10 pt Has documented Learning Disability 5 pt Not a Veteran 0 pt TEAS Score: Reading 66.7% 2.5 pt Has 4 semesters of Spanish at accredited college 2.5 pt Adjusted Individual TEAS score 64% 25 pt 4th time applying to program 3 pt ___________________________________________________ T O T A L P O I N T S = 68 pt (eligible to apply)
