GW Reads a LOT Ideally… • PreK: 1,000 books read aloud before Gr. K • Grade K: 15-20 minutes at home • Grade One: 30 minutes at home • Grade Two: 30 minutes at home • What to read? Familiar texts / Just Right Books • Remember to ask your child about what they read – just going over the words is great but comprehension is important too!
GW Writes a LOT Ideally in September… • PreK: Draw, Begin to Write Name • K: Draw, Label, Write • 1st: 2-3 pages a day, 3-4 sentences on a page • 2nd: 2-3 pages a day, 8 lines on a page • Encourage them to try and spell words out. That is how they learn to form patterns.
