Introduction • EMar will increase the efficiency of all areas of the health care field. • This system is beneficial to practitioner and the patient. • It will ensure that the records are correct, current and available with the click of a button.
RESIDENT INFORMATION Information can be accessed here, once placed in order entry.
Resident Look Up Screen This area of emar allows you to select a resident by unit or by physician. It is defaulted to active residents, but once the active only button is unchecked it will show discharged residents also.

Filtering Area Filtering allows you to have both due medications checked and current shift, or you can uncheck the current shift to find out what is due.
Extras .Refresh – will refresh screen .Hippa – logs you off system for privacy . History – gives you a log of previously dispensed medication and treatments.
EXAMPLE This is the emar screen where a dose of medication was given. Metoprolol was given after vitals were taken. These vitals are within range. Your text here
Dosage Held Evening dose of medication held due to set parameters.
Blood Sugar Sliding Scale Glucose monitor readings placed on scale and amount to be given to resident will be displayed.
Dosage Calculations Amount to be given to resident is calculated by system, once glucose reading is placed .
Blood Sugar Administration The caution symbol lets you know that this medication has been edited, check to see if it has been given or if there is another medication in the same drug class.
Documention of Sites .Once a patch has been applied the nurse will click on the notepad to document its location. .After an injection is given the nurse will also click on note pad to document site
Extended Directions This area will display the completed instructions for the nurse.
Note Area If nurse is late for any reason administering medication past the hour before/the hour after medication is scheduled the system requires the nurse to place a note for that reason and it is saved to residents record.
Example To see note written by nurse, you click on the note pad and under result it is document that a note has been written.
Order Entry Can be accessed from emar to save nursing time.
Tube Feeding The completed order is displayed under extended sig.
PRN Medications .Medications are printed at bottom of the emar. .If there is a regular scheduled dose and a Prn dose the scheduled dose is to be given 1st.
Documentation of Pain Medication Once a dose of pain medication has been given the nurse will document by clicking on the notepad, this will keep a log of medication given and relief of pain.
ii Mar history look up screen, this area will let you know what time medication was given and who administered it. This area can be set date specific.
TAR This areaof emar is for treatment medication administrations.
Tar History This look up screen logs all treatments given for resident. Who did treatment, what date or shift and this area can be date ranged.
One Time/Stat Order .Date can be adjusted when ordering in the 3rd level of order entry. .Will fall off emar at midnight of end date.
Short term Order .Amount of days scheduled will be displayed under extended directions. .Will fall off emar at midnight of end date.
Additional Features Resident allergies and vital signs can be accessed through the emar once stored in order entry during med pass. This feature will save the nurse time.
Vital Sign History This area can be used to preview all vital signs taken for resident.
Virtual Body While using TAR area of emar you can document location on the residents body and color coded it to resident specific issue. Example: rash/wound and as healing takes place.
Comparison of Workflow Printing Emar .Emar will help standardize forms, terminology and abbreviations. .Can be continuously updated. .Ability to exchange records between emar system.. .Handwritten paper medical records can be associated withpoor legibility, which can contribute to medical errors. .Storage of paper records .Copying and Faxing
