CONSTITUTION & POLICIES • Change a clause on age limit; • Included a clause to accommodate Board of Directors – envisaged professional wing • Change portfolio’s in the Executive Committee and their roles; • Included a clause on transfer of players; • Disciplinary procedure
POLICIES • Compiled Transformation policy to include selection, demarcation, coaching, administration and officiating; • SA Games policy • Employment policy
DEMARCATION • Compiled a demarcation policy; • Re-demarcate all regions according to govt. boundaries and ensure integration; • Integrate Soweto into Central Gauteng; • Biggest challenge is the vastness of some of the areas, e.g. Northern Cape and etc.
STRUCTURES • Formation of new structures; • Leadership training and experiential opportunities; • Formation of 9 Provincial Coordinating committees • National Netball League; • Incorporate gambling and social teams into our system; • Recruited all netball structures to affiliate to NSA
ADMINISTRATION • Appointed professional bookkeepers; • Audited financial statement to be approved by Council during AGM or Special General meeting; • Upgrade the position of the Office Administrator; • Recruited more volunteers to assist with office administration; • Run administration courses; • Improved office equipment.
DEVEOLPMENT & AFFIRMATIVE ACTION • Appointed a full time Development Officer; • Compiled a 4 year Development Plan (Vision 2005); • De-centralized development to Regions & Provinces; • Link with existing Provincial Academies; • More focus on rural areas and small regions;
Cont. • Develop female role models particularly – blacks as players, officials and administrators; • Facilitate and advice in the building of netball facilities, especially in rural areas; • Invited IFNA to come and run an administration course for African countries, hosted by NSA
Cont.. • Improved our coaching accreditation system – with initial funding from UK Sport • Have a 4 year agreement with top Australian coach to come twice in a year for coaches/coaching courses; • IFNA Umpires courses – invited other African countries to attend at their own costs.
Cont… • Hosted major events in small regions – Project “Taking the games to the people”; • Run coaching and umpiring courses in African countries; • President elected into the IFNA Board of Directors; • 1st African IFNA umpire appointed from South Africa; • National coach appointed to the IFNA coaches panel; • Two of our national players selected to World Top 7 Team.
GENDER REPRESENTIVITY • Introduced men’s netball; • Review constitution and any clauses relating to gender discrimination; • Encourage regions to empower female administrators and officials especially in black communities;
TEAM SELECTION • National Selection Committee to be appointed by the Executive; • Selectors appointed according to age groups or sections; • National Coaches to be appointed by the Executive & serve in the committees • Compiled a selection policy;
TARGET SYSTEM • PLAYERS : MINIMUM % U/19 >>>50% : 50% U/21 >>>40% : 60% SENIOR TEAMS >>>40% : 60% • ADMINISTRATORS/TECHNICAL OFFICIALS AT ALL LEVELS >>>50%

NNL Benefits One remarkable contribution of the National Netball League is the inclusion of Sindisiwe “Sindy” Gumede from Kwazulu today, one of the top players in the world– Natal in our national squad and Thobile Nzama selected for the SA “A” Team to tour Botswana and many more. Our pool for selection is more wider and more opportunities are given to all players especially those from disadvantaged areas. Through the NNL, our national teams will soon show the demographics of South Africa. The national selectors and the national coaches will identify talent from the league and those players will be included in the TI Squad for training and future preparation.(Provincial Academies) • Still this League is not sponsored!!
PROFESSIONALISM • Compiled employment contracts; • Set up packages for employees; • Employed a CEO and Event Coordinator – both resigned, couldn’t maintain them; • Signed a 5 year broadcasting contract with SABC; • Initiated a Tri-nation between South Africa, New Zealand and Australia; • Compiled players contracts; • Hosted successful international events. • Bidding for hosting 2007 World Championships (unsuccessful), intending to bid for 2011
SUCCESSION PLAN TEAMS: • USSASA: U/07 – U/19 • SA Games: U/19 players who never had an opportunity to represent their regions in any national competition; • All nine SA Games Provincial Teams are linked with their Provincial Academies; • NSA U/19 to include players from SASSU; • One pool of training & selection for the above teams; • Some players are transferred to the Provincial Academy
PLAN cont. • 4 Year plan for National Teams; • Experienced coaches attached to buddy coaches; • Identifying future administrators and mentoring; • All our programmes target second layer of development.
MARKETING • Netball South Africa receives extensive television, print and radio coverage. • Television: mostly in SABC and sometimes E-TV and Super Sport • Print media: • Beeld, Rapport, City Press and Die burger, Sunday Sun • The Star, Pretoria News, Sunday Times • Sowetan , Sunday World • The Citizen • Local newspapers • Magazines Radio: • All SABC radio stations • Community radio stations
BARRIERS / CHALLENGES • Poverty & income inequality (e.g. registration)–2million participants • Traditional urban/rural split; • Unemployment; • Culture; • All forms of Abuse; • Funding/Sponsorships; • Sustain and improve what we have achieved, needs funding to sustain these programmes

RECOMMENDATIONS • Need for political support from local to national level; • Corporate SA to be encouraged to support women sport; • Government to assist in building indoor facilities of international standards; • Use netball as a tool to develop top female role models, especially those from disadvantaged communities;
