3. Introduction • Netball South Canterbury has an executive committee with Karen Naylor as it’s president and umpires convenor. The rest of the committee is made up of: Steph Waud – representative Di Moloney – finance Mark Milmine – coaching Amanda O’Brien – juniors Fay Trezise – competition • Junior committee is made up of representatives from schools and meets as and when needed. • Anne Hatch is the Administration Officer and Colin Clemens is employed as a Caretaker. • Erin Williams NSC Development Officer. • Draw is on NSC website from Tuesday afternoons, in Wednesday’s Timaru Herald, and in pavilion on Fridays/Saturdays.

4. Format for Saturdays 2013 • Games start at 9am, 10am and 11am on Saturdays, and play 4 x 10 mins with 2 - 3 – 2 mins breaks. • Change in draw format for A, B, C Grade. No grading but seeded upon last year’s rankings. • Teams are in sections of 4 – 3 round robin matches. Top two go into section with other top two teams, bottom two go into section with other bottom two. 3 round robin matches and then put into sections of 8 – 7 round robin matches, semis and finals = 15 weeks netball. • No fun day tournament – prizegiving after finals games. • Team entries were due on Friday.

5. Saturday Format • No Play Queen’s Birthday weekend. • No netball second and third weekends of July holidays. • Start date for Saturday netball: 11 May. • Projected finish date after 15 weeks of netball: 31st August.

6. Future Ferns • Important for player development and fairness that rotation is followed correctly. • Competitive FF teams who do not follow rotation correctly, can loose competition points. Problems – come to office during game. • Rotations may seem confusing for the first few weeks but they are a key aspect of a netball player’s development. It allows players to develop knowledge and skills in all playing positions before specialising in one position or area of the court. • It is necessary to allow for the changing and variable growth patterns of young players. • It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure that all players are given the opportunity to play and develop in all 7 positions equally and that they play at least half a game each week.

7. Future Ferns • Correct rotation will be emailed to schools and be available on website. No excuses for not rotating correctly. Will be available for 8 players, 9 players, 10 players. • First team named in draw goes clockwise with rotation. • Coaches need to be prepared to show their rotation ‘paperwork’ if asked by a Junior Committee or Executive member if there are issues.

8. Friday Afternoon Netball • Games start on Friday 17 May and run for 10 weeks. • Non-competitive so no score taken or card to be filled out. • Teams will play 4 x 8mins with 2 min breaks. • Rotation only happens at half time and same with change of ends. • Start time will be 4pm. • Coaches umpire and can go on court to help.

9. Friday Afternoon … • Coaches must rotate team through all positions during the 10 weeks. • NSC will supply a drink bottle and player of the day certificate for each team each week . • School sports gear is fine to wear. • Modified rules, eg 5 seconds held ball, can allow a small step, not harsh on replayed ball, or offside. • Each school will be assigned a week to bring in low hoops.

10. Extra • No jewellery to be worn except taped medic alert bracelet. • Fingernails need to be short. • Injury time – there is none in Junior Netball. Game stops until injured player has been taken to the sideline and replaced. • Default – into NSC by 12pm on Friday but should be seen as a last resort. • Points table will be downstairs in pavilion once competition starts and available online.

11. Extra • Cancellations – will be on Port FM and their Facebook page after 8am news for Saturdays. For Fridays – decision will be made by 2pm and schools informed and Port FM rung. • Fun Ferns will take place later in the season. Aimed at 5 – 8 year olds.

12. Umpiring • Three Sunday clinics for new Junior Umpires (have to be playing A Grade and Year 8 this year or afternoon netball). No cost and those attending will be given a rule book and whistle. • Sunday 28 April, Sunday 5 May , Sunday 12 May. All: 10.30 to 12pm at netball courts. • Karen Naylor will look after the Year 9/10 umpires, and I will be looking after Year 8 umpires. • Ella Thomas will put umpires to games again this year.

13. Umpiring • Important for umpires to be treated with respect by coaches, managers, players and spectators. • Smiley face signs will be used again. • Umpires will be told to seek help from Junior committee members if needed. • Umpires need to give a week’s notice preferably if they are unable to umpire.

14. Club Duty • Most clubs will be rostered on for one Saturday morning –, smaller schools will be rostered on with another of a similar size. • Roster will be on NSC website. • Details will be provided to schools prior to their turn. • Two adults in the kitchen for the morning. • One in downstairs office with game cards. Cards will be filled in by teams inside the pavilion and returned to the inside window of the old canteen/lolly shop. • Umpires will collect cards by the outside window of the old canteen/lolly shop. • Upstairs office will have a Junior Committee member in and will do the timing and results of games and deal with any problems/issues.

15. Representative/Development • Year 7/8 Junior Development Programme will run for six Wednesdays from 29 May. Selectors will be watching players. 30 players to be selected (usually 20 Year 8, 10 Year 7). • Players selected for JDP must be available for all rep tournaments. • The SC Junior Rep Trials will take place on Wednesday 10 July and Thursday 11 July. Three teams selected – two Year 8 teams and one Year 7 team. • Representative tournaments take place from the last Sunday in July to Sundays in August. • Year 6 Junior Development Programme Tuesdays for six weeks – schools to nominate two Year 6 players to attend. Starts 28 May.

16. 17. NNZ Coaching Framework • Beginning Workshops: Taking off into Netball Coaching, My Little Team and Me, My Team and Me, Starting out in Coaching and Player Centred Coaching. • Developing Modules: include topics like Attack 1, Defence 1, Mental Skills 1, Game Analysis 1, Centre Pass, Ball Skills, Communicating and Managing Others, Team Building. • Advanced Modules: Enhancing Performance, Mental Skills 2, Attack 2, Defence 2 etc. • More info available on NNZ website.

18. Parent/Supporters Code of Behaviour • Encourage children to play to the rules and respect umpires’ decisions. • Recognise and value the importance of coaches and other volunteers, who give their time and resources to provide netball, they deserve your support. • Children learn by taking risks and making mistakes, encourage and support this. • Support the removal of verbal and physical abuse from the game. • If you disagree with an official, raise the issue via appropriate channels rather than question the official’s judgements and honesty in public. • Applaud good play by players on both teams. • Remember children are involved in netball for their enjoyment not yours. • Teach children that effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
