Fosse’s Childhood • Robert Louis Fosse, born on June 23, 1927 • Both of his parents were in the theater business- involved in stage his whole life • Moved to Hollywood hoping to be next “Fred Astaire” • Famous Movie Roles: Kiss Me Kate, Give a Girl a Break, and The Affairs of Dobie Gillis • Cut short (hair)

  3. Choreographed his 1st dance number when he was fifteen • Went into broad way with his first hugenumber Steam Heat in the musical “The Pajama Game”

  4. What is the Fosse style? • Fosse's choreographic style focused on the imperfections of a dancer's body to create new moves and poses. • "I thank God that I wasn't born perfect."

Fosse’s Style(cont.) • A Fosse dancer must have experience in ballet, and the dance styles of tap (especially rhythm tap), jazz and ballet. • Recognizable by its slinky moves and quick isolations, rolling shoulders and sleek, thrusting movements • focus primarily on legs and feet (also on hips, belly, shoulders)
