Encouraging Results • We are showing improvement in Newburyport, and also moving ahead of the state average • Tenth grade scores have reached new highs • Middle school math focus showed results with advanced and proficient percentages up across the board • Middle school science scores moved from below state average to way above • This year’s results better reflect the quality of education in Newburyport and validate our commitment to improvement

Analysis is Next • Date scheduled for analysis is the full release day, November 6, 2007 • Structure of the day • Principals present an overview of MCAS data to the staff • Teachers work in professional learning communities to analyze student scores • District faculty comes together in the afternoon to share district level content area conclusions and recommendations

Summary • Continue to develop and sustain effective change strategies at the school level • Sustain interventions that have been put in place to support MCAS achievement • Build consensus curriculum that includes frequent assessments K-12 • Implement a comprehensive literacy model K-6 • Develop a district-wide literacy focus • Continue to make significant gains in the advanced and proficient categories each year
