Unemployment Compensation Reform It was announced during the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year, the State of Florida’s Unemployment Compensation (UC) Program would undergo major reform with most changes becoming effective on August 1, 2011. The new reform requires that all UC claims must now be filed online. Claimants must make a minimum of five employer contacts per week or meet with an employment representative at their local One-Stop Center for re-employment services. Since the August 1st introduction of the UC claim changes, the Workforce Escarosa Pensacola One-Stop has seen a dramatic increase in the number of Resource Room/Job Search customers. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) 1,157 WIA participants served 447 WIA participants enrolled in specific training programs (232 Adult Participants and 215 Dislocated Workers) 150 WIA participants were Veterans (70 Disabled Veterans) 721 participants have entered employment Average wage for WIA participants: Adult - $12.92 per hour Dislocated Worker - $13.95 per hour Top five program enrollments: Registered Nurses Computer Support Specialists Medical Assistants Electricians Business Operations Specialists

Veteran Services 6,359 veterans served with 2,244 placements made Conducted 24 Transition Assistance Program (TAP) classes to assist personnel transitioning from the military to civilian jobs Conducted 10 “How To Apply For Federal Jobs” workshops Conducted 37 seminars for incarcerated veterans at area correctional institutions and work-release facilities Hosted the 4th Annual Veteran & Military Hiring Fair in conjunction with Region 2 in November 2010 Hosted the Salute Our Heroes Veterans & Military Family Career and Benefits Fair in May 2011 Hosted the first Community Re-Integration Fair in November 2010 to provide employment resources and services to disabled veterans and recently-released incarcerated veterans Participated in the Homeless Veterans Stand Down in October 2010 Received an Incentive Award totaling $32,990 in Fall 2010 for outstanding service to local veterans

Business Services Registered 439 employers in the Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM) Posted 1,756 job orders on EFM Total of 3,404 position openings Made 94,219 job referrals Conducted 15 on-site recruiting events which resulted in 697 hires to date Partnered with Pensacola State College to host 3 successful career fairs which yielded a total of 151 participating employers and 2,184 attending job seekers

The staff and services provided by Workforce Escarosa are always above and beyond our expectations.” A DZ Atlantic representative commented: “The Business Services Department’s extensive pre-planning was the key to our successful hiring event. The staff was very professional and friendly. We received a very qualified mix of construction personnel.” A PETCO representative commented: “I found all of the Workforce Escarosa staff to be professional, friendly and extremely competent. The Business Services Staff made what could have been a very challenging task seem almost effortless.”

Rapid Response Events During the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year, the Business Services Department conducted a total of 10 Rapid Response Events for area employers who were planning to lay off employees and/or close their doors. Among those affected, were 732 individuals from the following companies.   15. 2010 - 2011 Updates/Innovations Implementation of Scan Card SystemWorkforce Escarosa staff began issuing scan cards to customersin June 2011. All customers may now swipe their cards upon entering the Pensacola One-Stop Center lobby to track and record their visit. Re-design of Workforce Escarosa WebsiteA new Workforce Escarosa website is currently being constructed using Adobe Dreamweaver software. The new site will feature more user-friendly navigation, enhanced visual appeal, and improved organization of important documents and materials. Pre-Employment Assessment Center Since it’s opening in early 2011, the Pre-Employment Assessment Center has remained busy. To date, over 1,800 pre-employment testshave been administered. The center offers a variety of assessments including; typing tests, agility tests, various software proficiency testes(Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, etc.) and aptitude tests. Renovated Children’s Area New furniture and toys were purchased using funds provided by a grant from the Early Learning Coalition for our Children’s Area, adjacent to the large Resource Room.
