Decline in k-8 enrollment starts in 2002 with 35 students What is going on within world, local community and RCS in 2002? • We are within one year of 9/11 – unemployment rate is increasing. • Completion of St. John’s renovation to elementary school • EOTF announces proposals for RCS reconfiguration • Decision made to remain K-8, therefore decide to change bussing boundaries to balance out elementary school enrollment.

  6. Significant Decline of 101 Students in 2003 Changes to RCS – could they have effected enrollment? • Phase 1 of 2 bussing boundary changes for Holy Spirit, St. Pius X, and St. John’s is implemented • Renovation of St. Pius X School is started and completed

  7. 2004 brings another enrollment drop of 49 students What decisions are made for RCS in2004? • RCS decides not to implement Phase 2 of bussing boundary proposal (area 9) • St. Pius X School is forced to single sections • Trustees commission a committee to consider partnering Holy Spirit and St. Pius X Schools • Committee recommends not to make any changes to k-8 configuration

Enrollment drops 128 students in 2005 • 2005/2006 school year is rather quiet with no major changes to k-8 configuration or bussing boundaries. • Is this drop a side effect of decisions made in 2004? • At the end of school year Diane Schwinghammer resigns • New Principal Don Valentine is assigned to St. John’s School

  9. Another drop of 89 Students for K-8 in 2006 • Lourdes High School starts enrollment decline in 2006. They realize a loss of 35 students • There is no Superintendent for the school year and the Trustees decide to split the position to include RCS President and Direct of Schools. • St. Pius X and St. John’s Schools are partnered • Principal at Holy Spirit, Ron Gaines, Resigns

Yet another enrollment decline in 2007 • K-8 enrollment drops 39 students • Lourdes enrollment drops 27 students • With enrollment dropping in k-8 for past 4 years is this now effecting enrollment at High School? • The following new hires start in 2007 • New President , Denny Nigon • New Director of Schools ,Dave Doty • New Principal for Lourdes High School , Tom Donlon • St. John’s/St. Pius hire administrative assistant for Don Valentine , Suzanne Lagerwaard • New Principal at Holy Spirit , Matt Klebe

  11. Different Playing field in 1990 vs. 2000’s • 1989 luxuries are considered norms for today’s standard of living • Increased average amount of debt per household • Mortgage/housing crisis • Overspending trends • Increase in home schooled population
