  9. THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA WAS BUILT TO KEEP UNHAPPY PEASANTS FROM LEAVING CHINA, WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A LABOR SHORTAGE AND HUGE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS. IN OTHER WORDS, THE WALL WAS BUILT TO KEEP PEOPLE IN, NOT OUT, JUST LIKE THE BERLIN WALL.
