Keeping Microsoft Word Secure and Safe Microsoft Word is a globally common tool developed by Microsoft for writing and creating documents. It started out as a basic word processing application and has evolved into a multi-purpose, universal document-based program. Microsoft Word is capable of: ●Creating word documents ●Creating graphs ●Pasting and creating images ●Designing tables ●Customizable content for eBooks, articles, web content, pamphlets, brochures, letters, charts, and so much more ●Moving images to the back, up one, back one, or to the front ●Adding a background to the pages ●Adding tables of contents ●Adding hyperlinks ●And much more Maintaining security is important with Word, especially since it can handle macros, hyperlinks, sharing, and remote managing. For example, it has been used in a way that the user opens the document in their email and sees a blank document, while it secretly installs spyware and viruses on the PC. That is just one example of privacy invasion. Here are some things to consider as ways to help keep documents secure and safe.
Macros Microsoft Word handles macros, which provides capabilities for automated actions and specific coding for tasks like sorting, arranging, inserting, adding check boxes, etc. A document should never be opened from unknown sources as it could contain hidden functions. In addition, antivirus and anti-malware programs should be used to scan the file before opening it. In fact, some antivirus programs have emulated operations that allow the file to be opened in an emulator without harming the PC. That would be the best step to begin with. Hyperlinks Hyperlinks provide a way to access web pages right from the document through a simple click or by selecting the option through a right click action. Although this is typically safe, it may not be the hyperlink that the words suggest. Only open hyperlinks from trusted sources. In fact, content can project legitimacy, but may actually be designed for hacking through the direction of a hyperlink that appears legit based on content. File Sharing File sharing has evolved into a normal process in today’s society. A lot of images, documents, web links, etc. get shared with the touch of a button or two. Microsoft Word is no different. It provides sharing capabilities, whether through its simple email functionality, attachments, or remote access to the document. Depending on how a document is shared, other users can access or modify the contents. If the content is processed through the internet, hackers can potentially intervene and get access, although that is not as common
as email hoaxes. It gets attached as a document from an unknown source or in other cases, from a known source that has been hacked. Presented By Raising The Bar
