An adult model for resolving problems. Conflicts happen in every age and in every place. We believe that learning to get along is a powerful lesson for life. Types of Mediation Teacher Counselor School resource officer (SRO) Administrator Mediation
How Mediation Works • A student seeks resolution to a potential conflict. • That student is given the option of what type of mediation he or she wishes to use. • The other party in the potential conflict is contacted and given the option of engaging in mediation. • The mediation is held and the resolution is created.
What happens if either party does not live up to the bargain? • Conflicts become violations of Policy 8200. • No warnings. • The violation will be in a major category ie. insubordination, harassment, etc. • Physical violence will be prosecuted. There is no acceptable level of physical violence in our society or our school.
Our Students Are Winners! • Our students are the best! 90% of our students are never sent to the office for discipline. • More than 50% of those who make a poor choice are only sent one time!
Our Students are Winners! • Each year our school raises thousands of dollars for Relay for Life and other causes close to our school family from Middle School fundraising efforts. Kids often promote ideas!
Our Students are Winners! • Pgh. Business Times Guide to Western PA Schools continues to rank our MS as one of the top schools in Western PA (seven county region). • Consistently ranked as a top district in Westmoreland County + one of top in Pa. • Received Keystone Awards for meeting AYP in consecutive years.
