Acts 14:21-25 21 After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” 23 When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. 24 They passed through Pisidia and came into Pamphylia. 25 When they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
CHURCH VALUES 1. A high view of God 2. A high view of Scripture 3. A high view of the Church
1 THESSALONIANS 2:5 Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.
Young Believers Need the Local Church (Acts 14:21-25) • We must resolve to lead people to and lead them to obey Christ (14:21). We must preach Jesus (14:21a). “After they had preached the gospel…” We must teach people to follow Jesus (14:21b). “…and had made many disciples (learners/followers)”
Young Believers Need the Local Church (Acts 14:21-25) We must resolve to connect people to the body of Christ (14:21c-25). Believers need strengthening(14:22a). "strengthening the souls of the disciples…" Believers need encouraging(14:22b). "encouraging them to continue in the faith…" Believers need leadership(14:23a). “When had appointed elders for them in every church…”
THOUGHT The church is not the church without spiritual leadership.
1 THESSALONIANS 5:12-13 12 But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13 and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work.
Young Believers Need the Local Church (Acts 14:21-25) We must resolve to connect people to the body of Christ (14:21c-25). Believers need prayer(14:23b). “having prayed with fasting…” Believers need reminding to hope in the Lord (14:23c). “…the commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed."
23 Thus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the Lord.” JEREMIAH 9:23-24
ACTS 14:24-25 24 They passed through Pisidia and came into Pamphylia. 25 When they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
EPHESIANS 1:22-23 22 And He [God the Father] put all things in subjection under His [God the Son’s] feet, and gave Him [Jesus] as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
THOUGHT As people come to know Christ as Lord and Savior, they are then to be linked to other believers in local expressions of the body of Christ.
Working together for the glory of God and the well-being of the saints.
