Main Thrusts of Electrospark Deposition Project Project in partnership with PEWG • Repair of hard chrome plating on components • Localized damage • Generally require .010” or less of buildup • Repairs done at depot or in-situ • Repair of non-coated components using same material (I.e., self-repair) • Localized damage • Generally require .010” or less of buildup • Repairs done at depot or in-situ • Restoration of components for which no repair currently exists • Generally self-repair • Requires deposition of large amount of material, up to several mm
Structure of Electrospark Deposition Project • Three principal demonstration sites: • Oklahoma City ALC • Naval Aviation Depot North Island • Anniston Army Depot ESD units acquired and delivered to depots; five days of training included in purchase orders • Develop complete demonstration plan with JTP for gas turbine engine applications • Develop JTP for hard chrome plate repair on selected types of components • Develop test plan for Navy shipboard applications (self-repair) • Develop test plan for leading candidate components (non-engine) at North Island and Anniston (self-repair)
