  1. Win OS & Hardware

  2. Input Getting data into the computer

  3. Input There are 4 types of input: Text Graphics Audio Video

  4. Keyboard Keyboard – the primary input device

  5. Keyboard A keyboard is a series of switches connected to a microprocessor that monitors the state of each switch and initiates a specific response to a change in that state.

  6. Keyboard The most common keyboards are: 101-key Enhanced keyboard 104-key Windows keyboard 82-key Apple standard keyboard 108-key Apple Extended keyboard

  7. Mouse Mouse was originally invented at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) in the late 70’s

  8. Mouse Mice where first introduced to the public with the introduction of the Apple Macintosh in 1984

  9. Mouse Primary pointing device – it moves a cursor on screen corresponding to the movement of the mouse by the user

  10. Mouse Types of mice: Roller Ball Track Ball Optical Light Pen Graphic Stylus

  11. Mouse Roller Ball:

  12. Mouse Track Ball:

  13. Mouse Optical: (LED)

  14. Mouse Optical: (LASER)

  15. Mouse Light Pen

  16. Mouse Graphic Stylus

  17. Mouse Mouse Interfaces: PS/2 USB Serial

  18. Mouse PS/2

  19. Mouse USB

  20. Mouse Serial

  21. Scanner Optical Device similar to a copier

  22. Scanner Designed to make copies of images & text for use with a computer

  23. Scanner Images Converts Analog signal copy to a Digital signal copy that a computer can use

  24. Scanner Text Converts the text into digital format via OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software

  25. Scanner OCR Recognizing the text on a document to be able to convert it to editable text a word processing or other software can use

  26. Digital Camera Allows users to take pictures and store the photographed images digitally.

  27. Digital Camera When you take a picture, light passes into the camera lens, which focuses the image on a charge-coupled device (CCD). The CCD generates an analog signal that represents the image.

  28. Digital Camera An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) converts the analog signal to a digital signal. A digital signal processor (DSP) stores the digital image on the camera’s storage media.

  29. Digital Camera The images can be transferred to a computer via a USB/Serial/Firewire connection

  30. Audio Recording sound for use with a computer

  31. Audio Voice Recognition Computer software interprets spoken words and converts them into digital form

  32. Audio Music Computer software interprets music signals from Midi (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) compatible instruments and converts them into digital form

  33. Audio Music Direct recording of music through a sound card input interface Wav (Wave files) a digital representation of an analog signal

  34. Video Converting analog signal to a digital signal or direct digital transfer to the computer

  35. Video USB or FireWire interface

  36. Video On the computer can be edited via NLE (Non-Linear Editing) software

  37. Input All input devices regardless of type allow us to enter some form of data into the computer for use with software or for storage
