LQS01 Readiness Review #2 – Coils June 17, 2009 LQ cable and coil HT qualifications (FNAL data) D. Turrioni on behalf of the Superconducting R&D Group
Outline For each coil heat treatment: • VI and VH for round and extracted at 4.2 K • VI and VH for round and extracted at 1.9 K For all coils: • VI and VH for all extracted at 4.2 K • VI and VH for all extracted at 1.9 K Note: In this presentation data on extracted strands are on Ti for three of the coils, and on SS for one coil.
Conclusions • The LQ witness samples that were tested on Ti barrels show an average Ic(12T, 4.2 K)=565 A and Ic(12T, 1.9 K)=760 A for the extracted strand. This shows that the heat treatments were successful for all the four coils. • The Is of the extracted strand with respect to that of the round strand can be used as a measure of cable quality [E. Barzi et al., IEEE Trans. Appl. Sup., V. 17, No. 2, June 2007, p. 2607]. The Is reduction of the extracted strand at 4.2 K was within the present statistics: • Up to 45% for cable 978R • Up to 26% for cable 979R • Up to 7% for cable 983R • Up to 10% for cable 984R.
