North Carolina Example • Sept. 12, 2005, News & Observer:“Road Planners Aim to Assist Wildlife” • US 15-501 Bridge Expansion over New Hope Creek ($1.2 mil deer crossing) • US 64 Widening in Washington County($2.7 mil black bear crossings) • I-26 Extension in Mars Hill ($600,000 wildlife culverts) • The plans are based on “a mix of theory, gut instinct, and field observations”

Communication Toolbox • Forums: classroom training/workshops, field demonstrations, public meetings, seminars, symposia, conferences • Internet: Web sites, listservs, discussion forums, searchable databases, streaming media, Web meetings/conferences • Digital: CD-ROM, DVD, Podcasting • Print: brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, journal articles, research reports, proceedings • Media: television, radio, newspaper
