Course Structure • Tutorials and lectures fortnightly with an online activity in the intervening week. • Feedback provided on two online activities in first term which are completed in groups. Other online activities students are expected to complete independently. • Assessments in semester one are formative and diagnostic. • Students encouraged to contact course leaders via discussion board and tutorial leaders during the online activity week.
Reasons For Adopting An Elearning ( Blended) Approach • Frustration with existing model based purely on large lectures and tutorials. • Desire to recognise that students have demands on their time other than studying. • An interest in moving the course towards a more constructivist, student centred approach to learning. • A desire to try to provide for different learning styles.
Question for workshop Are the differences between FE And HE such, that the use of VLE’s need to be different? Areas you might want to consider: • Nature of resources • Nature of student intake • Nature of institution • Staff
Associate Colleges • Very positive response from FE lectures. • 1 out of four using VLE as intended. • Very favourable response from FE students • FE lecturers largely using site as a resource for themselves!
