  4. Let’s look closely at the life cycle of a plant grown from a seed.

  5. Joe and Sue are planting tomato seeds. Tomato Plant

  6. A seed needs air, water and warmth to germinate.

  7. To germinate means to start to grow!

  8. A seed also needs time to grow!

  9. Aha! shoot root The root grows from the seed first. Soon, the shoot appears. The young plant is called a seedling.

  10. At first, the seedling gets its food from the seed. When leaves develop, the seedling starts making its own food.

  11. The flowers finally develop into fruits. As the seedling grows, more leaves and roots grow. Flowers also appear.
