Cats And Dogs: CHOCOLATE • Large quantities • Coma and Death • Lesser quantities • Gastrointestinal problems including diarrhea • Degree of toxicity depends on weight of animal as well as type of chocolate • Semi-sweet and Bakers chocolate = worst • Have larger quantities of THEOBROMINE • Cardiac stimulant

  3. Cats and Dogs: GRAPES & RAISINS • Unclear cause • Small amount causes damage to the kidneys • 24 hours after ingestion

  4. Cats and Dogs: ONIONS • Destroys animals red blood cells • Leads to: • Anemia • Weakness • Breathing difficulties • Poisoning occurs a few days after the onion is eaten • Cats more susceptible • Garlic less toxic than onions

  5. Cats and Dogs: AVOCADOS • Contains PERSIN • Damage heart and lungs • Toxic also to other animals

Cats: DOG FOOD • Only cat food is formulated to meet the nutritional requirements • Cats require more: • protein , B vitamins, niacin, vitamin A and fatty acids • Cats also require an amino acid called taurine, an essential part of their dietary makeup, as they cannot produce this substance themselves.
