Is a representative of the cargo owner. • SHIP AGENT – acts as an agent to the ship-owner. • PORTAGENT– represents the vessel in port. • SHIPBROKER – intermediary between charterer and ship-owner. • SHIPPER – exporter, manufacturer or owner of goods • CARRIER – concludes a contract of carriage with the shipper • CHARTERER – concludes a C/P for the transport of goods or people. • SHIPOWNER – owner of ships. • SHIPPINGCOMPANY – ship-owner or company of ship-owners. • CONSIGNEE – receiver of goods.

SHIPPING PROCEDURE, p. 16/3-4, 6-10 • When the ship-owner has received a shipper’s note about cargo to be loaded. • Date the ship will proceed along, actual time, particulars of draft, tonnage, type of cargo, laden draft, LOA. • Based on the weight or measure of cargo, whichever is greater. • Stevedores – stowage of cargo on the ship; dockers – cargo handling on the quay. • Sequence of discharge, factors that may affect ship’s stability. • Agent or master applies for clearance at the customs house (documentary evidence that cargo is in order, customs clearance effected, emigration and port health regulations). • Upon a presentation of a B/L after freight has been paid.
