What Fear is there in the classroom? • Fears of the Student: • Fear of failure • Fear of embarrassment • Fear of ridicule • Fear of not understanding • Fear of tests • Fear due to lack of self confidence • Fear of new things • Fear of “Not being smart enough” • Fear of change • Fear of being able to pay for school • Fear of successfully balancing work, school, family, friends

  4. What Fear is there in the classroom? • Fears of the Instructor: • Fear of not knowing enough • Fear of inadequacy • Fear of failure • Fear of administration • Fear of colleagues • Fear of competition • Fear of loss of job • Fear of loss of control in the classroom

  5. How to eliminate the Fear? • For Student and Instructors: • Respect yourself and your students/classmates/colleagues • Communicate freely • Use community resources • Be true to your ‘inner self’ • Make the classroom a safe haven • Be open and honest • Take time to recharge yourself • Make a commitment to quality and care • Use fear as a motivator not a paralytic!
